Our take on 4X4
The compact grid and three-minute survival format focus attention on immediate hazard responses, but leave little room for exploration, character development, or extended progression between attempts.
What is 4X4?
Survive for three minutes in a square arena divided into 16 spaces.
Each stage has its own theme, with background music and obstacle behavior changing between stages. Hazards may move quickly, destroy areas, or approach slowly in time with the rhythm. Some obstacles can also be used to the player's advantage. The game combines bullet-hell action, rhythm timing, and puzzle elements. Large objects and the fixed arena make hazards quick to identify and respond to. Its rules are simple to learn, but the vendor notes that the game is not easy. In endless mode, players can pursue a high score after tackling the themed stages.
How 4X4 plays
- 01Themed Stages
- Stage themes alter both the background music and the behavior of obstacles.
- 02Mixed Challenge Styles
- The obstacle patterns combine projectile-heavy action, rhythm timing, and puzzle elements.
- 03Endless Score Chase
- Endless mode focuses on pursuing a higher record.
- 04Obstacle Interactions
- Some hazards can be turned to the player's advantage rather than only avoided.
