This remake follows the original Chinese RPG, with its plot, maps, and dialogue remade.
Players choose between normal mode, which follows the original version, and open mode, which begins with many unlimited items. Exploration includes towns, fields, and caves, with lanterns revealing the nearby area, pearl fragments illuminating an entire cave map, and Lilou’s eye changing a labyrinth’s layout. Combat adds enemy types, bosses, skills, character attributes, and item drops, and can be switched between manual and automatic control. Other additions include voice work for controllable characters, biographies of important figures, hidden items, a casino, larger item stacks, item storage, and faster movement. Much of the original music and imagery remains.
