Our take on YOKAIWARE
YOKAIWARE departs from the usual action-game structure by changing its mechanics from one microgame to the next. Instead of maintaining a single combat or movement loop, it uses a rapid sequence of short, yokai-inspired challenges controlled with arrow keys.
What is YOKAIWARE?
YOKAIWARE is an action game containing 28 fast-paced microgames inspired by Japanese mythology.
Each game features its own mechanics, visual style, and feel, with only a few seconds available to complete it. Arrow keys are the sole controls. Challenges include defending a castle, exploding a skull, and striking a sleeping woman. Players can attempt to finish every game in succession without dying, or enter an endless mode that becomes faster over time. The sequence is built around unpredictable changes between short challenges, with each microgame presenting a different task and yokai inspiration.
