We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…

- Roguelite players who prefer runs shaped by collected upgrades
- Players who enjoy unlocking options that change how they play
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who want combat without simultaneously managing a bouncing ball and enemy fire may hit a wall at the core paddle-based combat system.
- Players who prefer fixed character abilities may find run upgrades and gameplay-changing unlockables a poor fit.
- Players looking for a climbing puzzle, as in Jusant, may not find that activity here.
Our take on Whackerball
Players who struggle to track two kinds of movement at once may bounce off as soon as combat requires keeping the ball airborne while dodging bullets and shooting. The paddle-and-ball system is central to encounters, not an optional mode that can be set aside.
What is Whackerball?
Whackerball is a twin-stick shooter roguelite built around Breakout-inspired mechanics.
Use a paddle to keep a ball in the air while dodging enemy bullets and defeating enemies. Runs take the player through different biomes, where upgrades can be collected to change or strengthen a run. The game uses physics-based combat, and its unlockables alter how play works. Combat combines aiming and shooting with controlling the ball’s movement, so players must manage both while moving through each area.
