Our take on WE ARE SO DEAD
Rather than giving every player the same view and voice, the game divides knowledge between the living and the dead. The ghost sees threats and solutions but must communicate indirectly, while players who die remain part of the team instead of leaving the session.
What is WE ARE SO DEAD?
A 2–6-player online co-op game built around asymmetric communication.
One player becomes a ghost who can see the demon, dangers, safe routes, and relics, but cannot speak directly to living players. The ghost communicates through a seance board, flickering lights, doors, physical contact, and, as a last resort, a scream. Living players carry relics back to the board while interpreting these signals under pressure. Each session uses a demon with changing rules, and players must discover and spell its true name to banish it. Players taken by the demon join the dead and gain the ability to communicate with the remaining ghosts. The house contains nine floors, with each successful banishment unlocking the next.
How WE ARE SO DEAD plays
- 01Asymmetric ghost roles
- Ghosts can see threats, escape routes, and relic locations while living players remain unable to hear them directly.
- 02Board-based communication
- The ghost moves a planchette to answer questions or spell messages for living players to interpret.
- 03Changing demon rules
- The demon’s behavior, attack timing, and location of danger vary between sessions and are initially known only to the dead.
- 04Relic retrieval
- Ghosts locate ritual items while living players transport them back to the seance board.
- 05Death joins the seance
- Players taken by the demon become additional ghosts who can search for relics and warn about threats.
- 06Nine-floor progression
- Banishment unlocks deeper floors, each containing something not found on the floor above.
