Our take on Vomitoreum
Rather than presenting a conventional side-scrolling Metroidvania, Vomitoreum places exploration and ability-based traversal inside a first-person shooter. Its horror setting, Beksiński-inspired imagery, and environmental lore depart from the genre's familiar adventure framing.
What is Vomitoreum?
Vomitoreum combines first-person shooting with Metroidvania exploration in an interconnected, nightmarish world affected by an eldritch infection.
Players control the Nephilem, a being formed from cosmic ash and trapped souls, searching the ruins for tools and weapons while pursuing a way to make the fog recede. Movement abilities change how previously visited areas can be approached, while combat uses focused encounters and challenging bosses. The setting draws on the paintings of Zdzisław Beksiński, with grotesque pixel art, environmental storytelling, hidden lore, secrets, and a dark, arid atmosphere. The journey moves from a grave factory through a blighted landscape populated by demons and mutated inhabitants.
