We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Rogue-lite players who want procedurally generated combat runs
- Action players who enjoy collecting weapons, artifacts, and soul-funded upgrades
- Friends seeking local co-op dungeon fighting
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a fixed campaign may bounce off the repeated procedural dungeon structure.
- Players who dislike run-based progression may hit a wall when upgrading through souls and talent trees.
- Players looking for a primarily exploration-focused or climbing-based adventure may not find the combat-centered structure suitable.
Our take on Vile
The bounce point arrives when a player must choose between completing a random objective for a reward and simply fighting onward. Those seeking a fixed sequence of missions may also hit the wall at the start of each procedurally generated level.
What is Vile?
Vile is an action rogue-lite set across six changing worlds filled with demonic creatures and other horrors.
Each dungeon provides a random objective that can be completed for a reward, although defeating enemies alone can also advance the run. Players collect souls, discover weapons and artifacts, and face 12 bosses, including a bone vulture fought on a carriage. Characters have unique abilities, with stamina supporting two abilities per character and mana powering artifacts. Souls can be spent across three talent trees for upgrades such as additional spells, health rewards, and improved loot collection. The game also includes local co-op, multiple characters, and changing maps for repeated runs.
How Vile plays
- 01Randomized dungeon goals

- 02Three talent trees
- Collected souls purchase upgrades including extra spells, retained souls, and health rewards.
- 03Character abilities
- Playable characters have distinct abilities, weapons, and artifacts, with two abilities available to each character.
- 04Boss encounters
- The game includes 12 bosses with different forms and battle scenarios.
- 05Local cooperative play
- A second player can join the dungeon fighting locally.
- 06Changing world maps
- Six worlds provide maps that change between playthroughs.
Vile compared to similar games
Vile combines procedurally generated dungeons, random objectives, soul-funded talent trees, collectible weapons and artifacts, and local co-op. Abyssus also presents a roguelite combat structure with multiplayer, but uses hand-crafted levels, tactical shooting, and weapon modifications through ancient technologies rather than Vile's objective-driven dungeon runs and talent trees.
