Is Unrest worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Players of narrative RPGs who prefer ordinary people to legendary heroes
- Players who enjoy choices carrying consequences between different characters
- Players who want conversation and manipulation to matter more often than combat
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking frequent combat may hit a wall when violence is rare and always avoidable.
- Players looking for a heroic quest or a single central protagonist may find the five-character structure a poor fit.
- Players who want every failure reversed may not enjoy consequences that remain in the narrative, especially in Iron Man mode.
Our take on Unrest
Players expecting combat to drive an RPG may bounce off when violence is rare and avoidable. Those who prefer to reset every failed objective may hit another wall when deaths and failures remain in the story, particularly in Iron Man mode.
What is Unrest?
Unrest is a story-focused role-playing adventure set in a fantasy version of ancient India.
Players follow five ordinary people in Bhimra, a famine-stricken city-state facing poverty, disease, treason, and political and social upheaval. Conversation, manipulation, and occasional violence provide ways to pursue goals. Choices made in one chapter can affect another character’s story later. Death and failure do not create a fail state; they become part of the narrative.
Combat is rare and always avoidable. Branching dialogue lets players choose what to say and how to say it, while showing changes in the other person’s liking, fear, or respect. Iron Man mode removes second chances, while save and load remain available. Mod support allows players to create and share worlds and adventures.
How Unrest plays
- 01Linked character chapters
- Decisions made during one character’s story can affect the fate of another in a later chapter.
- 02Branching dialogue
- Conversations track how responses change another person’s liking, fear, or respect.
- 03Failure becomes story
- A character’s death or failure remains part of the narrative rather than ending the game.
- 04Iron Man mode
- This option removes second chances, while standard play allows saving and loading.
- 05Adventure creation
- Players can make and share their own worlds and stories.
