Our take on Unexplored
Rather than separating roguelike planning from action combat, Unexplored combines traditional roguelike concepts with real-time encounters. Generated dungeons also foreshadow later keys, enemies, and puzzle solutions, giving procedural runs a connected structure instead of treating each room as an isolated challenge.
What is Unexplored?
Unexplored is a real-time action RPG built around generated dungeon runs.
Each attempt creates an interconnected dungeon with combat encounters, puzzles, locks, keys, hints, secret items, vendors, and hub floors. The objective is to reach the depths, defeat the dragon, claim the Amulet of Yendor, and return to the surface. Combat supports dual-wielding, ranged attacks, shields, stealth, surprise strikes, and tactical use of potions, staves, scrolls, armor, and enchanted weapons. Characters gain temporary strength and equipment upgrades during a run, while death removes those powers. Achievements can unlock equipment for later runs, and gold carries between characters. The game includes over 50 possible bosses, crafting, item mixing, and permanent death.
How Unexplored plays
- 01Generated Dungeon Runs
- Each attempt builds a connected dungeon with future encounters, puzzle solutions, keys, notes, and other hints distributed across its levels.
- 02Real-Time Combat
- Fights use dual-wielded items, thrown weapons, shields, armor, stealth, surprise attacks, potions, and magic equipment.
- 03Puzzle Exploration
- Statues, books, locked areas, and hidden doors create puzzles whose solutions can provide rewards.
- 04Boss Encounters
- Runs include regular battles against one of more than 50 possible bosses, including ants, dragons, and the Balrog.
- 05Run-Based Progression
- Temporary abilities and equipment disappear on death, while achievements can unlock items for purchase before later attempts.
- 06Item Crafting
- Equipment can be improved with magic items, and consumables can be mixed into beneficial or harmful drinks.
Unexplored compared to similar games
Unexplored centers on generated dungeon runs with real-time combat, puzzles, stealth, permadeath, and more than 50 possible bosses. Vagante is described as a dark-fantasy adventure through monster-filled lands, with adventurers pursuing fame, riches, and power, but its listed description does not present the same puzzle- and foreshadowing-focused dungeon structure.
