We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Space-combat players who want a solo campaign rather than multiplayer sessions
- Exploration fans who enjoy changing routes and encounters across runs
- Players who prefer gathering equipment and taking varied missions over a fixed sequence of objectives
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a tightly scripted route may find the randomly generated systems less predictable.
- Those who prefer combat without equipment gathering or purchasing may find scavenging and station shopping central to the experience.
- Players looking for a multiplayer space game should note that this is single-player.
Our take on Transcendence
The changing star systems and scavenged loadouts trade a fixed route for run-to-run variation. That structure gives less control over which encounters and equipment appear along the journey.
What is Transcendence?
Transcendence is a single-player space game centered on combat and exploration.
A mysterious intelligence compels the player toward the Galactic Core while ancient powers quarantine Human Space. The journey passes through dozens of randomly generated star systems, where scavenged weapons and devices influence each run. More than a hundred enemy ship and station types have distinct abilities. Equipment can be recovered from wreckage or bought at friendly stations, while missions for the Commonwealth Fleet and Corporate Hierarchy can provide unique high-tech weapons. Other activities include escorting freighters, selling ores extracted from asteroids, arena combat, and trading illicit goods. The Steam edition includes Corporate Command, with three additional player ships, and Eternity Port, a separate adventure involving virtual inhabitants.
