Our take on Toward Dawn
The defining combat choice is the poise system: breaking an enemy removes its action and leaves it vulnerable to heavier damage, making tactical timing central to each turn-based encounter.
What is Toward Dawn?
Toward Dawn is a pixel-art fantasy role-playing game drawing on Welsh mythology and Celtic folklore.
Carys and Bleddyn search for answers about the experiences that left lasting scars as they cross a world filled with animated narrative scenes, side quests, optional character conversations, and romance. Its turn-based fights revolve around shattering an opponent’s poise, removing that foe’s next turn and leaving it open to stronger attacks. Encounters occur through exploration rather than chance, and progress does not require repeated battles.
Separate skill paths and equipment setups shape abilities, while crafted gear grants extra moves and special traits. Story, Classic, and Hard settings are available, along with the Dragon’s Guard card game, legendary beasts, and approximately 10 hours of play. A demo save can be carried into the full game.
