Is Top Hat worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Players who enjoy challenging 2D action-adventure platformers
- Fans of NES-era games who want seven themed worlds and boss fights
- Players interested in weapons that change platforming or enemy interactions
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a relaxed platformer may bounce off the stated hard difficulty and challenging stage design.
- Players looking for open-ended exploration may find the seven-world, level-and-boss structure too stage-focused.
- Players seeking a climbing-focused action-puzzle game may prefer Jusant's tower ascent and route exploration.
- Players wanting multiplayer shooting action may find Abyssus closer to that format.
Our take on Top Hat
Players may bounce off when the difficulty reaches its demanding platforming and boss encounters. Another sticking point is the weapon system: progress includes tools that alter movement or freeze enemies, which may frustrate players seeking only straightforward running and shooting.
What is Top Hat?
Top Hat is a 2D action-adventure platformer inspired by older NES games.
The story follows a hero trying to recover a stolen golden top hat while visiting seven worlds, each with its own visual style. Every world has three levels and a boss; from the fourth stage onward, each level is split into two parts. The game includes seven weapon types, including a platform gun that shoots platforms for jumping and a freeze gun that freezes enemies. Players also encounter NPCs, complete mini quests, watch cutscenes, earn achievements, and hear a chiptune soundtrack. Its progression combines challenging platforming, combat, stage-specific visuals, and boss fights.
