Our take on The Unfinished Swan
Rather than presenting a readable world from the outset, the adventure makes visibility part of exploration. Painting is the means of discovering the landscape, so environmental observation replaces the usual map-first approach to moving through a story-driven game.
What is The Unfinished Swan?
The Unfinished Swan follows Monroe, a 10-year-old orphan, through a surreal kingdom after a swan leaves an unfinished painting.
Much of the environment begins as an all-white landscape. Players throw paint to expose its shapes and surroundings, uncovering new places as they move through the story. Each chapter introduces different ways to explore, along with strange and sometimes dangerous creatures. The journey also brings Monroe into contact with the eccentric king who created the kingdom. The game presents its world as a storybook-inspired setting built around discovery, environmental reveals, and chapter-based progression.
How The Unfinished Swan plays
- 01Paint-Based Exploration
- Thrown paint exposes the structure of the otherwise blank surroundings.
- 02Chapter Progression
- The journey is divided into chapters that introduce fresh methods of exploring the environment.
- 03Surreal Storybook World
- The setting combines a mysterious kingdom, unusual creatures, and an eccentric ruler.
