Our take on The Severed Gods
Rather than treating defeat as a reset, the game makes reincarnation part of its progression structure. Its tactical battles also replace simple enemy health depletion with height-based targeting, defense breaking, and limb severing that can alter what opponents are able to do.
What is The Severed Gods?
The Severed Gods is a dark fantasy, turn-based tactical RPG with roguelite progression.
Heroes repeatedly reincarnate while carrying relics, skills, companions, and decisions into new journeys. Battles use height-based targeting: enemies have Low, Mid, and High body parts with separate shields and weaknesses. Breaking defenses can knock enemies down, while severing limbs disables abilities and reduces attacks. Choices shape Karma along Virtue or Sin paths, producing different consequences and rewards. Heroes have distinct marks and roles, such as stealing items, revealing weaknesses, or recruiting followers. Hundreds of skills and relics support different builds, while NPC interactions and scattered story fragments reveal the world’s history and the origins of the Titans, Umbra, and the heroes’ mark.
How The Severed Gods plays
- 01Height-Based Battles
- Target Low, Mid, or High sections of enemies, each with its own shield and weakness.
- 02Body-Part Severing

- 03Reincarnation Progression
- Each new cycle can permanently unlock heroes, improve skills, and preserve relics.
- 04Karma Choices
- Decisions lead toward Virtue or Sin, with different consequences, rewards, allies, and powers.
- 05Distinct Hero Marks
- Hero-specific marks grant different approaches to combat and exploration, including theft, weakness discovery, and follower recruitment.
- 06Build Experimentation
- Skills, relics, and inherited NPC abilities can be combined into varied character builds.
