Our take on The Phoenix Initiative
This action-adventure combines roguelike progression with colony construction and defensive battles. Randomized environments, dangerous weather, and a choice of three upgrades at each level shape its survival structure, rather than a fixed sequence of encounters.
What is The Phoenix Initiative?
The Phoenix Initiative is an action-adventure roguelike set on a post-apocalyptic Earth transformed by runaway nanotechnology.
Players control astronaut Florence Phoenix while exploring randomly generated environments, mining and gathering resources, and fighting hostile creatures. Materials can be brought back to build and defend a home with structures such as turrets and traps, as well as to upgrade the character. Weather hazards include meteorite showers and toxic atmospheres. Each level offers a choice of three upgrades for combat, survival, or new abilities. The game uses a top-down view and sets a high combat risk: only a few hits can lead to defeat. Genesis Crystals are artifacts tied to humanity’s effort to reclaim Earth and restore the planet.
