Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a persistent campaign may not prefer its roguelike structure and run-based progression.

- Players looking for direct character-focused storytelling may find the emphasis on ship configuration and tactical objectives limiting.
Our take on The Pair Annihilation
The store emphasis falls on ship variety, missions, and stacked reactor effects, while the carrier creates a narrower tactical constraint: it cannot fight and must be defended. The once-per-battle rewind also limits how often mistakes can be corrected.
What is The Pair Annihilation?
The Pair Annihilation is a grid-based, turn-based roguelike strategy game about fighting the Udtmos after a retreat from the stellar system.
Battles use different ships, weapons, artifacts, and reactor cores whose effects stack when equipped. Each battle can provide a new core, while sub-weapons can be crafted and added to ships. Missions include destroying incubators and blocking portals, with random events appearing in the Dark Zone. Players choose routes toward the star and face bosses with distinct abilities. Combat includes a once-per-battle rewind that restores allied ships to the start of the turn, plus the option to fire or move ships twice. A carrier must also be defended because it has no combat abilities.
How The Pair Annihilation plays
- 01Ship customization
- Ships use reactor cores, two built-in weapons, and craftable sub-weapons with different effects.
- 02Mission variety
- Battle objectives include destroying incubators, blocking portals, and responding to events in the Dark Zone.
- 03Boss encounters
- Higher-ranking Udtmos opponents have individual abilities that affect their battles.
- 04Turn rewind
- Once during each battle, allied ships can be restored to their positions and states at the turn's beginning.
- 05Carrier defense
- The carrier cannot fight, so battles require protecting it while the other ships engage enemies.
- 06Carrier upgrades
- Craftable skills and enhancers, along with rescued survivors, can grant the carrier additional abilities.

Shogun Showdown also uses turn-based roguelike combat, but focuses on attack tiles, combos, skills, and deck construction before a Shogun encounter. The Pair Annihilation instead centers on grid positioning, ship equipment, route choices, battlefield missions, carrier defense, and space-themed bosses. Xenonauts uses turn-based squad combat with persistent soldiers and a broader military-organization structure, while this listing focuses on three pilots and customizable ships.
