Our take on The Dark Room
Rather than offering an open world or a conventional adventure path, the game turns the text-adventure format into a hostile puzzle box. Progress depends on enduring unfair traps, warped logic, and repeated deaths while uncovering a hidden story through exploration.
What is The Dark Room?
The Dark Room is a retro-styled comedy puzzler and text adventure built around decisions, exploration, puzzles, and brutal deathtraps.
Its warped logic and unfair situations can lead to repeated deaths while the player pursues escape and freedom. The game includes body horror, profanity, comedy, and a hidden story about Darren that unfolds through skill, patience, and exploration. It contains more than three-and-a-half hours of recorded content. Level One includes 60 minutes of motion-captured dialogue and performance, with additional content in Levels 2, 3, and Darkest. The game adapts comedian John Robertson’s interactive stage show and is presented as the opposite of an open-world game.
