SimulationIs The Blackout Club worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Horror fans seeking a cooperative investigation rather than a solo-focused game
- Groups of friends who want to gather evidence and evade threats together
- Players who prefer replaying missions with changing objectives and patrols over a fixed sequence
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a fixed mission sequence may not enjoy objectives and other mission elements changing between nights.
- Those who prefer to keep threats continuously visible may find the Shape’s eyes-closed visibility mechanic a poor fit.
- Players looking for a non-horror setting may not want a game centered on a monstrous threat and a missing friend.
Our take on The Blackout Club
Rather than relying on a continuously visible pursuer, the game makes its central threat visible only when players close their eyes. Its missions also change between nights, replacing a fixed sequence with procedurally varied objectives, patrols and loot.
What is The Blackout Club?
A group of teenagers investigates why people in their town sleepwalk at night and wake with no memory, and searches for a missing friend.
In first-person missions, 1–4 players explore houses, woods and underground tunnels, gathering and recording evidence. Drones, noisemakers and grappling hooks are among the tools used to evade adults and navigate obstacles. Mission goals, enemy patrols, loot and other elements change between procedurally generated nights, with missions also varying according to player level and progress. Players can choose routes and experiment with abilities and items. Drawing too much attention brings the Shape, a threat that can only be seen while players have their eyes closed. Characters can be customized, and leveling unlocks ability upgrades and expansion slots.
