Our take on The Backrooms: Liminal Space
Players expecting combat will bounce as soon as they discover that the maze offers no fights. Those waiting for item-based interaction will meet a second wall because the experience supplies only a camcorder while exploration and VHS-treated atmosphere carry the experience.
What is The Backrooms: Liminal Space?
This brief horror game puts the player inside an uncanny maze of yellow corridors, seen through a handheld camcorder.
There are no objects to collect and no battles; wandering is the main activity. Visual treatment imitates worn videotape with image grain, horizontal scan marks, and recording glitches. Reverberating steps, unstable illumination, and corridors that appear endless shape the eerie liminal setting. Several scenarios explore this style of space, and the compact structure suits a single play session. The project was made independently by a twelve-year-old creator with Unreal Engine 5.
