Our take on Tentacult!
The group-control approach makes follower behavior central to movement, but gives up the fine control of directing each converted resident separately. The controls focus on moving, rotating, clumping, and reshaping the swarm rather than assigning individual actions.
What is Tentacult!?
Tentacult!
is a swarm-control game set in a modern town with Lovecraftian horror elements. Lord Cthulhu sends one Tentacute to make friends among the residents; after enough have joined, a portal opens and the group is sent back to R'lyeh. Newly converted neighbors mimic the swarm’s movements, so players direct the group around the environment to reach the portal. The controls include moving, rotating, clumping, and changing the swarm’s shape. On PC, movement uses WASD or the arrow keys, with Space for clumping. Xbox controls use the left stick for movement, the right stick for rotation, and A for clumping or menu selection. Feeding neighbors adds them to the group, and the sacrifice sends the group home.
How Tentacult! plays
- 01Mimicking Followers
- Converted residents copy the swarm’s movements, making their behavior part of navigating the environment.
- 02Swarm Shaping
- Players can reshape the group and pull its members together while directing it.
- 03Neighbor Conversion
- Friendly residents can be turned into additional members of the swarm.
