Our take on TELETEXT
The teletext format keeps the experience focused on browsing pages, choices, and puzzles, but that narrow interface leaves less room for movement-based exploration, combat systems, or conventional adventure-game interaction.
What is TELETEXT?
Set in 1995, TELETEXT casts the player as a viewer browsing a television teletext service during an ad break.
The service contains missing news articles, disordered games, and signs that nobody is maintaining it. Players explore its pages, make choices that affect the world, and solve unusual puzzles. The game also includes fourth-wall interactions, which can be disabled, plus tasks involving the kind of problem solving associated with system administration. Real-world IT knowledge is not required. The vendor also describes ongoing content additions that are intended to introduce further puzzles and story elements over time.
How TELETEXT plays
- 01Reactive world
- Decisions made while browsing can produce consequences within the game.
- 02Branching choices
- The experience presents multiple options during the investigation.
- 03Unusual puzzles
- Challenges require solving problems through unconventional approaches.
- 04Fourth-wall interactions
- Meta-level elements are included and can be switched off.
- 05Ongoing content
- The vendor plans continuing additions of puzzles and story material.
- 06Admin-style tasks
- Some problems draw on the duties of a real system administrator without requiring IT expertise.
