Play it if you…
Good fit- VR horror players who want an underwater laboratory setting
- Players who prefer stealth and puzzle solving in a horror campaign
- VR shooter fans who want a second episode focused on roaming combat
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a single consistent gameplay style may not want the shift from stealth puzzles to shooting between episodes
- Players looking for a broad or non-linear campaign may find the story centered on escaping one facility and reaching one destination too focused
- Players without VR hardware cannot play this VR-only game
Our take on SYREN
The defining structure is its split campaign: the first episode uses stealth and puzzles in a failing underwater lab, while the second turns the same story into a free-roaming shooter.
What is SYREN?
SYREN is a VR-only survival-horror game set in an underwater research base.
Episode 1 begins in a damaged laboratory where systems are failing and the reactor is nearing a dangerous state. Progress depends on moving through the facility quietly, solving puzzles, evacuating the lab, and surviving what the experiments released. Episode 2 follows CIA agent Manning after the events of the first episode. It changes the structure to free-roaming shooting, with military combat against groups of syrens while Manning travels toward the Anomaly. The story centers on a scientist conducting experiments to recreate the lost Syrens species. Episode 2 comes with the game purchase and is also available as free DLC for existing owners.
How SYREN plays
- 01Two Story Episodes
- The campaign moves from a failing laboratory evacuation to Manning's pursuit of the Anomaly.
- 02Stealth And Puzzles
- The first episode requires quiet movement and puzzle solving while escaping the underwater facility.
- 03Free-Roaming Shooting
- The second episode uses open movement and firearms against the syrens stalking Manning.
- 04VR-Only Format
- The game is made exclusively for virtual reality play.
SYREN compared to similar games
SYREN combines VR survival horror with a two-part structure that shifts from stealth and puzzles to free-roaming shooting. Mental Asylum VR instead places a wheelchair user in a zombie-filled house and uses joystick-controlled movement. Redemption: Saints And Sinners centers on soldiers investigating an evacuated space station, but its description does not specify the VR, stealth-puzzle, and episode-shift structure found in SYREN.
