Our take on Sumoman
The defining constraint is Sumoman's unstable balance: once he falls, he cannot rise, turning ordinary movement into a central puzzle hazard.
What is Sumoman?
Sumoman is an adventure puzzle platformer set across an ancient Japanese island.
Players guide a young sumo wrestler through physical puzzles, hazardous surroundings, and contraptions while managing his unstable movement: if he falls, he cannot stand up again. A time-reversal ability can undo actions and change the outcome of a puzzle. The journey follows Sumoman as he searches for the source of an enchantment that has placed the island's inhabitants in an endless sleep. The game also includes humor and hidden jokes, plus split-screen play for two people. Competitive levels include sumo racing and King of the Hill.
How Sumoman plays
- 01Time Reversal
- Rewind actions to alter outcomes while solving environmental puzzles.
- 02Unstable Movement
- A fall leaves the main character unable to get back up.
- 03Destructible Objects
- Some environmental objects can be broken during puzzle-solving.
- 04Two-Player Competition
- Split-screen levels support sumo races and King of the Hill matches.
Sumoman compared to similar games
Jusant focuses on climbing a tall tower, with climbing tools, stamina management, multiple routes, and environmental discovery. Sumoman instead centers on physics puzzles, destructible objects, time reversal, and a hero who cannot stand after falling.
