Our take on SubZero
The defining mechanic is the combination of narrative choices and fate-deciding dice rolls: decisions alter both relationships and the bonuses or penalties applied to later outcomes.
What is SubZero?
SubZero is a live-action interactive movie set after a sudden freeze devastates the world.
Leo leads Molly, Erlinda, and Reina through an icy wasteland threatened by zombies, blizzards, and dangerous former neighbors. Player decisions affect relationships and alter dice modifiers, with bonuses or penalties influencing the story’s direction and endings. The game combines an 80% first-person and 20% third-person narrative perspective, using filmed cinematics at 1080p, 50 FPS, and a 30,000 kbps bitrate. Live on-set audio accompanies the footage. The three survivors have different backgrounds and temperaments, while their motives and bonds develop through branching choices. Dice rolls can determine major events, including whether the group survives the journey.
How SubZero plays
- 01Branching Relationships

- 02Dice-Based Outcomes

- 03Live-Action Presentation
- Filmed scenes use a blended first- and third-person viewpoint with live recorded audio.
- 04Three Survivors
- Molly, Erlinda, and Reina bring distinct backgrounds and personalities to the journey.
SubZero compared to similar games
SubZero presents a live-action, branching apocalypse story shaped by relationships and dice modifiers, while Back to the Dawn is an RPG about investigating crime and escaping a maximum-security prison. Mr. Prepper focuses on building an underground shelter and crafting in preparation for nuclear war, rather than SubZero’s filmed narrative and survivor choices.
