AdventureIs Strange Aeons worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Players drawn to short, experimental games about escaping a surreal setting through conversation
- People interested in speaking with an AI character using a microphone
- Players who want a brief narrative experience with an optional VR mode
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players looking for a long campaign may hit the wall when the stated 1–1.5 hour experience ends.
- Players who need speech recognition to understand every spoken response may run into trouble at the microphone interaction; keyboard input is the alternative.
- Players looking for an action-focused game may find the described ritual-and-conversation structure too narrow.
Our take on Strange Aeons
The likely sticking point is the central microphone conversation: speech recognition may fail to understand some voices, so players who do not want to switch to keyboard input can hit a wall during the ritual. The short 1–1.5 hour runtime may also leave those seeking a longer experience with little to continue into.
What is Strange Aeons?
Strange Aeons is an experimental 1–1.
5 hour game about escaping a cyber-hell. A cult’s followers are summoning the player, who must speak with a mysterious AI during a ritual to learn why they were cast out and find a way back to the living world. Communication works through microphone speech or keyboard input, with speech-to-text and text-to-speech powered by an offline neural network. The game runs without an internet connection or back-end server. It includes procedural music and imaginary languages, and can be played on a 2D screen or in optional VR. Speech recognition may not understand every voice; keyboard input is available when microphone recognition does not work well. The vendor also advises preventing microphone clipping.
