Our take on Stone 4 Souls
The focus on side-scrolling exploration, sword combat, and equipment progression narrows the experience around fighting and character development. That leaves less room for the climbing, puzzle-solving, or multiplayer shooting structures found in other action games.
What is Stone 4 Souls?
Stone 4 Souls is a side-scrolling game combining Metroidvania exploration, Soulslike combat, medieval fantasy, and RPG elements.
Dark creatures emerge from dimensional portals after 20 years of peace, while the protagonist searches for a missing friend connected to the attacks. Maps contain chests with visual equipment and attributes for upper armor, chest, gloves, boots, pants, and rings. Killing enemies causes the character to level up, granting points for the skill tree categories of life, strength, defense, stamina, and special. Combat includes light swords for faster attacks, heavy swords for greater damage, and elemental swords with unique special attacks. Three types of special attacks use a Limit bar that fills as enemies are hit.

Stone 4 Souls compared to similar games
Stone 4 Souls combines side-scrolling exploration with sword combat, equipment attributes, leveling, and a skill tree. Sundered: Eldritch Edition is also a Metroidvania, but its description emphasizes chaotic action and a roguelite structure rather than Stone 4 Souls' equipment slots, sword types, and attribute development. Jusant focuses on climbing, stamina management, exploration, and environmental puzzles instead of combat-driven RPG progression.
