Is Starwisp Hyperdrive worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Players who want a space RPG focused on exploration and ship-based activities rather than a single stated destination
- Fans of whimsical science-fiction settings who want mining, trading, gardening, and unusual encounters
- Players willing to try an Early Access game with bugs and unfinished sections
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a combat-focused RPG may find the stated activities centered more on exploration, repairs, jobs, and relationships
- Players wanting a completed game may not suit an Early Access title with unfinished sections and possible bugs
- Players who prefer a narrowly focused activity may find the combination of travel, mining, gardening, repairs, and social encounters too varied
Our take on Starwisp Hyperdrive
The cozy framing gives prominence to the ship as a home, but the current Early Access status is equally important: bugs and unfinished sections remain. The broad activity list also does not show how much content each system contains.
What is Starwisp Hyperdrive?
A space RPG adventure about exploring a strange, whimsical universe while making a home aboard an inherited spaceship.
The ship needs repairs, has a poor reputation, attracts government agents, and may be haunted. Players create a character, choose destinations, manage fuel, visit traders, accept jobs at spaceports, mine asteroids, grow alien plants, and conduct experiments. Ship parts and robots can be repaired or scrapped, and the cargo bay can be rearranged. The game also includes conversations with unusual space characters and bonding with robot companions. Starwisp Hyperdrive is in Early Access, with bugs and unfinished sections. The vendor directs players to the Steam forums or Discord for bug reports and feedback, and identifies further features as coming soon.
