Is Starlight Legacy worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Retro RPG fans who want a non-linear route through the main objectives
- Turn-based RPG players who enjoy elemental systems and character skills
- Players seeking a pixel-art adventure with exploration tools and creature summons
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players looking for a tightly linear campaign may find the open relic order less structured
- Players seeking real-time combat or a highly complex battle system may find the turn-based commands and five-element framework limited
- Players wanting a primarily narrative-focused RPG may prefer a game centered on story and characters rather than province exploration
Our take on Starlight Legacy
Rather than locking the main objectives into a fixed sequence, the game lets players choose which of four provinces to tackle first. That route choice also changes how each province is experienced, making exploration order part of the RPG's structure.
What is Starlight Legacy?
Starlight Legacy is a turn-based RPG set across the four provinces of Evaria.
The four Starlight Relics can be collected in any order, changing how each province is experienced. Key items include a Rock Hammer for breaking rocks, a Raft for crossing rivers, a Magic Carpet for faster travel, and a Flute for returning to visited towns. Outdoor areas connect without loading screens, while a Mode 7-inspired 3D flight area becomes available after collecting all four relics. Battles use commands such as Attack, Magic, Defend, Items, and Skills. Five elements affect characters and spells, 15 skills can be unlocked, and defeated creatures recorded in the Bestiary can be summoned.
How Starlight Legacy plays
- 01Nonlinear Province Order
- The four relics can be pursued in any sequence, and the chosen order affects each province's experience.
- 02Traversal Key Items
- The Rock Hammer, Raft, Magic Carpet, and Flute open different travel options across Evaria.
- 03Elemental Gems
- Characters can change elements, and matching a caster's element with a spell increases its power.
- 04Fifteen Unlockable Skills
- Active skills provide battle moves, while passive skills alter character statistics and combat effects.
- 05Creature Summons
- Recorded defeated creatures can be called into battle to attack, heal allies, or provide other effects, including bosses.
- 06Sky Traversal
- After all four relics are collected, aerial travel reaches areas that cannot be accessed by other methods.
Starlight Legacy compared to similar games
Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition centers on an unconventional story, characters, and exploration of a strange city, while Starlight Legacy emphasizes four-province exploration, selectable relic order, and turn-based elemental combat. Back to the Dawn focuses on prison survival, investigation, crime, and escape, whereas Starlight Legacy uses fantasy travel, skills, creature summons, and relic collection. Tales of Symphonia presents an epic conflict involving two interlocked worlds and a chosen figure, while Starlight Legacy replaces that structure with an open order for its four regional objectives.
