Our take on Starlair
The emphasis on an endless galaxy may suggest a large professionally authored setting, but the core structure comes from planets made by players. That makes the experience depend on community-created content and places the creator tool alongside, rather than beneath, the campaign.
What is Starlair?
Starlair is a Metroidvania-style action adventure set across a seemingly endless galaxy.
Players take the role of a bounty hunter who travels between planets, faces challenges, and searches for riches while opposing the alien forces of Zy. Each planet is created by another player, making the galaxy a collection of user-built worlds. The game also includes a creator for making personal Metroidvania-style adventures and adding them to the cooperative story mode. Players can focus on exploring, construct their own planets, or combine both activities. The story involves a team of 50 bounty hunters confronting Zy and his alien hordes.
How Starlair plays
- 01Player-Created Planets
- The galaxy consists of worlds made by other players, each containing its own challenges.
- 02World Building
- A creation tool lets players make Metroidvania-style adventures for the cooperative story mode.
- 03Cooperative Story
- Player-built planets can be added to a shared campaign involving 50 bounty hunters.
Starlair compared to similar games
Starlair combines Metroidvania exploration with player-built planets and a cooperative story mode. Sundered: Eldritch Edition is presented as a chaotic Metroidvania with its content delivered through a defined game edition and updates, rather than a galaxy built from player-created worlds.
