Our take on Star of Providence
Its focus on rapid combat and repeated procedural runs leaves less room for a fixed, carefully authored route through the facility. The changing layouts and escalating loops trade predictable progression for variation and replay-oriented challenge.
What is Star of Providence?
Star of Providence is a top-down action shooter set in a long-abandoned facility.
Players descend through floors with changing layouts, traps, enemies, weapons, upgrades, choices and story revelations. Combat offers 13 weapon types, more than 50 modifiers and many possible combinations. The game also includes over 40 additional weapons, cartridges, blessings, new characters, hacking and a practice mode for previously encountered bosses. Procedural generation adds over 2000 room layouts, while new floors, hazards, enemies and bosses expand the descent. Completing a run unlocks a harder loop. The soundtrack uses chiptune music, and the previously paid Relics of the Past DLC is included at no extra charge.
