Our take on Squally
Squally departs from a typical RPG by making assembly language the way players manipulate its world. Its puzzles place programming at the center of progression, replacing a standard focus on direct interaction with code-based challenges within a planetary adventure.
What is Squally?
A 2D puzzle RPG uses x86 or x64 assembly language as its central way to alter the game world.
Following an emergency arrival on an unfamiliar planet, Squally assists local inhabitants against the forces troubling their home. Solving challenges and progressing through play introduces assembly, with binary and hexadecimal covered as related subjects. No prior programming experience is required, and a motivated player can complete the main story. Players with hacking experience can also use the game to review and test their assembly skills. The Linux and Mac editions focus on x64, while the Windows edition teaches x86 because of compiler-related technical limitations.
