Our take on SPL: Skilled Pilots Live
The store presentation emphasizes combat systems and loot combinations, while the core structure is compact: three chapters with bosses that each take approximately 30 minutes. Equipment loss on death is also a central limitation despite the focus on collecting varied gear.
What is SPL: Skilled Pilots Live?
SPL: Skilled Pilots Live combines fast looter-shooter combat, souls-like mechanics, and 3D space simulation.
Runs contain three chapters, each ending with a boss fight and taking approximately 30 minutes. Combat includes shields, reactor heat, dashing, barrel rolls, parries, warp movement, and hull damage that can restore lost structure. Enemies can be flanked, staggered, and finished for additional recovery. Random equipment drops with tiers and modifiers, while a fabricator dismantles or combines unwanted items. A ship can carry up to 4 weapons and 3 upgrades, with 63 weapon combinations formed from 7 variants and 9 types. Death destroys equipped items, though loot can be saved in an expandable stash. Loot can also be used to spawn wingmen.
