Our take on Spirit Oath
The store presentation foregrounds the unusual tile-and-summoning concept, but gives less attention to the narrow defensive structure: enemies target a core while the player rebuilds terrain, commands units, and casts support spells.
What is Spirit Oath?
Spirit Oath combines real-time strategy with board-game mechanics and god-like abilities.
As a forest Guardian Spirit, players restore damaged land by placing Rune Tiles and arranging them into patterns that call Spirit Warriors into battle. Enemy forces target the Guardian’s core, while spells provide additional support during fights. Story mode follows the effort to save Elderwood, the Guardian’s siblings, and the forest from dark forces. Separate skirmish levels are randomly generated for continued play. The game uses a clean art style and centers its play around rebuilding terrain, arranging tiles, summoning units, managing attacks, and casting spells.
How Spirit Oath plays
- 01Tile-based world building
- Rune Tiles restore the forest and form the patterns required to summon allied units.
- 02Real-time battles
- Enemy groups attack the core while summoned Spirit Warriors fight under the Guardian’s direction.
- 03Guardian spellcasting
- Spells can be used during battles to support the Guardian’s troops.
- 04Story and skirmishes
- A campaign about saving Elderwood is paired with randomly generated levels for repeat play.
Spirit Oath compared to similar games
Spirit Oath combines tile arrangement, unit summoning, spellcasting, and core defense, while Dungeon Defenders: Awakened combines cooperative action RPG play with tower defense, loot, leveling, pets, and character customization. Until We Die focuses on defending an underground subway base for about 30 game days against repeated attacks, rather than rebuilding terrain and forming patterns to summon units.
