Our take on spec
The defining structure is its progression through 66 levels that continually introduce new mechanics or switch to a different game mode.
What is spec?
Spec is an arcade-style game organized into 66 levels and 11 game modes.
Its challenges vary between projectile avoidance, platforming, puzzles, reflex tests, survival sections, and precision tasks. New mechanics or entirely different modes appear as progression continues. Three additional modes are concealed within the game and can be unlocked. Completing the main game opens Speedrun Mode, which includes a built-in timer, automatic stage starts and stops, and automatic progression between stages. Players can record their screens and upload speedruns to YouTube for comparison with other players. The game’s challenges therefore shift between different arcade formats rather than remaining within one mechanic throughout the main progression.
How spec plays
- 01Varied arcade challenges
- Levels cover projectile dodging, platforming, puzzles, reflexes, survival, and precision.
- 02Hidden bonus modes
- Three extra modes are placed throughout the game for players to find and unlock.
- 03Built-in speedrunning
- After the main game, a timer manages stage starts, stops, and progression between stages.
spec compared to similar games
Spec combines 66 levels across 11 arcade-style modes, while SUPER CHICKEN JUMPER centers on running, jumping, dodging, and shooting in a runner format. Intralism focuses on matching visual cues to music, with player-created beatmaps and online multiplayer, rather than switching among platforming, puzzle, survival, and precision challenges.
