Our take on South of Midnight
Its focus on a directed folktale adventure leaves less room for open-ended play, deep role-playing systems, or repeated multiplayer sessions. The additional digital materials broaden the edition’s contents, but they do not change the game’s primarily narrative-driven structure.
What is South of Midnight?
South of Midnight is a third-person action-adventure set in a macabre version of the American Deep South.
Players control Hazel, who becomes a Weaver after a hurricane devastates her hometown of Prospero. She travels through Southern folklore-inspired regions, encounters mythical creatures, and uses magical weaving abilities to repair damaged bonds and spirits. Combat includes confronting and subduing dangerous Haints, while exploration reveals memories, local stories, and Hazel’s family history. The journey follows Hazel’s efforts to rescue her mother, protect Prospero, and understand the connections between family, history, legacy, and identity. The Weaver’s Edition includes the full game plus an artbook, soundtrack, comic book, music video, and director’s-cut documentary, all in English.
