Our take on Soul Scathe
Procedural dungeons prioritize changing routes and repeatable exploration, but give up the consistency of a fixed dungeon layout. The game also concentrates on combat, spell use, traps, and progression rather than presenting a broader range of gameplay activities.
What is Soul Scathe?
Soul Scathe is a virtual-reality dungeon-crawling RPG set in the Mistchamber Dungeons.
Playing as the Valiant Returner, a revived battlemage seeking scattered soul fragments and lost memories, players explore changing dungeon layouts containing enemies, traps, secrets, and loot. Combat combines close-range attacks with magic and environmental interactions, including telekinetic control of mechanisms, falling chandeliers, and hidden switches. The spell system offers 14 base spells and 9 combinations created through physical gestures, for 23 spells in total. Character progression includes leveling and assigning stat points to shape development. The game also supports bHaptics peripherals and uses audiovisual and haptic responses during melee encounters.
