Our take on somnus
The game concentrates its experience in a cold, narrow cave and builds tension through repeated inspections, paperwork, sound, and uncertainty. That focused setting gives the atmosphere room to develop, but limits environmental variety and places less emphasis on action or open-ended exploration.
What is somnus?
SOMNUS is a first-person adventure game with horror elements.
Thomas, a young man whose mother is seriously ill, works as a night guard to pay for her treatment. His apparently routine shift takes him into a cold, confined cave, where he descends through dark tunnels during each inspection. Players check the area, investigate unusual details, find clues, and solve riddles while strange sounds and unexplained events build psychological tension. After each inspection, Thomas records his observations in paperwork. The game presents flickering lantern light, dense darkness, echoes, rustling, and other sounds as part of its atmosphere. Decisions and unexpected events affect how the situation is perceived as the night progresses.
How somnus plays
- 01Cave Inspections
- Each shift sends Thomas farther into underground passages to check whether conditions remain under control.
- 02Observation Reports
- After inspections, players document what they have noticed in written reports.
- 03Clues And Riddles
- Exploration combines searching the environment for evidence with solving puzzles about the cave.
- 04Psychological Tension
- Unusual incidents and decisions gradually make the night feel more disturbing and uncertain.
- 05Environmental Audio
- Footsteps, echoes, rustling, and unidentified noises contribute to the cave’s unsettling atmosphere.
