Our take on Somniphobia
The bounce point arrives when several constraints overlap: the torch battery is small, only one vent can be closed at a time, and one creature moves closer whenever the player looks behind. Players who dislike juggling surveillance and limited defenses may hit the wall there.
What is Somniphobia?
Somniphobia is a single-player survival horror game set inside Susan’s nightmares.
Players solve puzzles and move through vents and corridors in a hand-painted world shaped by her memories and traumas. The environment can change over time, while monsters approach when attention slips. Cameras provide views into Susan’s memories and reveal where creatures are lurking. Survival depends on managing a small torch battery, closing vents selectively, and avoiding a creature that advances whenever the player looks behind them. If the nightmarish thoughts and figures get too close, Susan wakes up and the dream begins again.
How Somniphobia plays
- 01Memory surveillance
- Cameras show parts of Susan’s memories so monster positions can be monitored.
- 02Limited resource management
- A small torch battery and the ability to seal only one vent at a time constrain defensive choices.
- 03Changing nightmare maze
- Vent sections shift over time as the player moves through the dark maze.
- 04Puzzle-based survival
- Progress requires solving puzzles and testing different approaches while avoiding approaching creatures.
