Our take on So to Speak
The bounce point arrives when a word cannot be solved from its immediate surroundings. Players expecting direct translations or conventional exercises must instead connect signs, objects, and text before moving forward.
What is So to Speak?
So to Speak turns Japanese study into environmental puzzles.
Players explore urban streets, rural settings, gardens, and temple grounds while inspecting written clues and overheard speech. Each unfamiliar term must be paired with a nearby thing, expression, or written explanation carrying the equivalent meaning; for instance, a word for an entrance can be linked to the relevant doorway or its English label. More than 650 vocabulary items cover subjects including journeys, the natural world, relatives, hues, counting, clocks, and navigation. Lessons progress from words like “car” and “tree” to extended sentences, without combat, exercises, or minigames.
