Our take on Slay
Slay departs from straightforward expansion by making stronger forces an ongoing financial burden. Permanent purchases and maintenance costs turn military growth into a restraint, while dividing territory can damage an opponent’s finances.
What is Slay?
Slay is a turn-based strategy game about conquering an island divided into hexagons.
Players buy men to capture enemy territory, then combine two men into one stronger man that can defeat weaker units. The stronger the created man, the more expensive he is to maintain. Purchased men cannot be removed, so force expansion creates lasting financial pressure. The game requires balancing military growth against upkeep costs rather than expanding without limits. Players can also cut an enemy territory in half, potentially bankrupting one side of it. Unit purchases, maintenance, and territorial division form the main structure of play.
How Slay plays
- 01Unit Combination
- Two men can be merged into one stronger man that can defeat weaker units.
- 02Maintenance Costs
- More powerful men require greater ongoing payment, while purchased men cannot be removed.
- 03Territory Division
- Splitting an enemy territory can bankrupt one part of it.
