Our take on Running Fable
The defining mechanic is the concealed preparation phase: players alter the course with hazards before racing, then face one another's unseen placements when the round begins.
What is Running Fable?
Running Fable combines multiplayer racing with a planning phase in which up to 10 players position items and traps around a level.
These placements remain hidden until the race begins, when competitors run, jump, dodge, fly, and move across land, water, or air hazards toward the trophy. Traps can be concealed beneath environmental objects and can reshape the route. Each round awards points for reaching the goal and for placing traps, with the final score combining both sources. Players can also change character hats, outfits, and taunt animations between rounds in the online lobby. The game uses short rounds and fantastical courses to combine route planning with direct racing.
How Running Fable plays
- 01Hidden Trap Planning
- Players arrange hazards before the race, and their locations stay concealed until the action starts.
- 02Mixed Terrain Hazards
- Placements can target routes across ground, water, or air, changing how competitors approach the course.
- 03Dual Scoring
- Round totals combine points from reaching the trophy quickly with points earned through trap placement.
- 04Character Customization
- The online lobby allows changes to hats, outfits, and taunt animations between rounds.
