Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a continuous open-world structure rather than sequential stages
- Players who prefer passive combat over repeated throwing, kicking, parrying, and object handling
- Players looking for a story-focused adventure rather than combat-driven progression
Our take on Rumia Throws!
The object-focused combat gives stages a broad set of interactions, but it also makes encounters depend on handling different item properties rather than a small, fixed moveset. Players looking for a tightly standardized combat loop may find that variety adds extra decision-making during each stage.
What is Rumia Throws!?
Rumia Throws!
is a 2D, stage-based action game in which Rumia gathers food by defeating every enemy on each map and collecting the meat at the goal. Objects such as boxes, rocks, and fish can be thrown, kicked, or ridden, with properties including weight, speed, buoyancy, flammability, power, and penetration. Rumia can also parry projectiles, perform forceful kicks, and activate a high-damage special move when her motivation gauge is full. The game includes over 100 stages across locations in Gensokyo, with Touhou characters appearing as area bosses. Kyoko Kasodani is an additional playable character with broom attacks and sound-based abilities. Stage completion without damage and 40 achievements provide replay goals.
How Rumia Throws! plays
- 01Object-based combat
- Fallen items differ in weight, speed, buoyancy, flammability, power, and penetration, affecting how they work in combat.
- 02Motivation specials
- A filled motivation gauge enables a high-damage move that leaves Rumia exposed afterward.
- 03Projectile parrying
- Incoming projectiles can be deflected as part of the combat system.
- 04Playable second character
- Kyoko uses broom strikes, sound waves, and solidified sound constructs for attacks and movement.
- 05Stage replay goals
- The game includes 40 achievements and rewards clearing stages without taking damage.
Rumia Throws! compared to similar games
Rumia Throws! uses thrown, kicked, and rideable objects to clear sequential stages, while SUPER CHICKEN JUMPER combines running, jumping, dodging, and shooting in a runner structure. Sundered: Eldritch Edition is described as a chaotic metroidvania with roguelite progression, whereas Rumia Throws! emphasizes fixed stage progression, object properties, and Touhou boss encounters.
