Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking unrestricted city construction may hit the limited-area placement rules quickly.
- Players wanting a fixed, predictable puzzle sequence may bounce off the randomly shuffled building shapes.
- Players looking for combat, character progression, or an open-world city simulator will find a narrower puzzle structure.
Our take on River Towns
The bounce point arrives when placement space tightens and randomly shuffled shapes must also serve district-cluster scoring. Players who prefer decorating freely may stop at the constrained board, while score chasers face another hurdle when secondary objectives change the value of otherwise useful placements.
What is River Towns?
River Towns is a city-building puzzle game about fitting differently shaped buildings into limited areas.
Three districts provide distinct building shapes, shuffled randomly for each game. Buildings also belong to colored districts, and connecting large clusters earns bonus points. Scores award stars that restore the world and open additional levels. Objectives vary between levels: players may restore a dried river, collect gold, regrow trees, or rebuild monuments. Completing levels grants gold, silver, or bronze markers based on score. A level editor supports custom layouts, which can be uploaded to Steam Workshop. Photo mode lets players share towns, while leaderboards compare scores for each level.
