Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who want a forgiving run structure may hit a wall when permanent death ends a character’s attempt.
- Players who prefer fixed dungeon layouts may find the changing level generation a poor fit.
- Players seeking a real-time strategy game may not find the turn-based combat they want.
Our take on Realm of the Ghost King
The clearest sticking point is permanent death: a poor choice can end a run, so players who want retries within the same attempt may bounce off when a character dies. The Daily Challenge adds another hard stop, with only one run available during its 24-hour window.
What is Realm of the Ghost King?
Realm of the Ghost King is a turn-based roguelike about fighting through eight randomly generated dungeons to challenge the Ghost King.
Players choose from 12 unlockable characters with different abilities, strengths, and weaknesses, then manage resources and make choices to strengthen their character as they progress. Bombs can defeat enemies and reveal hidden power-ups. Death is permanent, so a failed run ends that character’s attempt. The dungeons change between playthroughs, and secrets include items and places to discover and unlock. A Daily Challenge gives everyone the same levels to play, with one attempt during a 24-hour period and leaderboard comparisons. The game is presented with pixel art.
