Our take on Queen of Seas
The religious theme and original story are prominent, while the described play focuses on avoiding underwater hazards, collecting coins, and improving a scuba suit. Reaching the Queen is presented as a possibility rather than a guaranteed outcome.
What is Queen of Seas?
Queen of Seas is a casual platformer themed around Yemanjá, described as the Queen of Seas in Afro-Brazilian religion.
The player controls a fisherman’s son who dives deep to deliver offerings and prove his family’s faith. Underwater dangers include sharks and jellyfish, which the player must avoid while collecting coins. Coins can be used to improve a scuba diving suit through three upgrade types, each with three levels. Helmet upgrades increase movement speed, chest upgrades provide greater resistance to shark and jellyfish attacks, and leg upgrades increase jump height.
Achievements can provide extra coins. Further upgrades allow the player to travel longer distances and may make it possible to reach the Queen of Seas. The game also includes original storytelling inspired by its religious theme.
