Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who want forgiving combat may hit a wall when a weapon runs out of ammunition and its rounds must be loaded manually.
- Players who dislike close-range defensive mechanics may struggle when enemies attack and blocking with the crowbar is part of survival.
- Players looking for a multiplayer experience may not find the mode they want in this single-player-focused description.
Our take on Project Three
The clearest sticking point is ammunition handling: players cannot rely on picking up loaded magazines, so reloading rounds by hand becomes part of combat. Those who prefer uninterrupted shooting may bounce when a weapon runs dry during an encounter.
What is Project Three?
Project Three is a first-person survival horror game set in an alternate, fan-made Half-Life universe.
After a resonance cascade, a routine trip to work becomes a struggle against an alien threat and the US army, while the story raises questions about what is really happening. Players face creatures including headcrabs, zombies, and Manhacks, as well as stationary turrets and tripmines. Combat combines firearms with melee defense: the crowbar can block attacks and reduce or negate incoming damage. Ammunition management requires manually loading rounds into magazines rather than collecting ready-loaded ones, so weapons can run dry during a fight. The game focuses on atmosphere, story, and survival encounters against several enemy types.
How Project Three plays
- 01Manual Magazine Loading
- Rounds must be loaded into magazines, and weapons can be left empty during combat.
- 02Crowbar Blocking
- The crowbar can reduce incoming damage and may block an attack completely.
- 03Multiple Enemy Types
- Encounters include jumping headcrabs, resilient zombies, flying Manhacks, turrets, and tripmines.
- 04Alternate Half-Life Setting
- The story takes place in a fan-made version of the Half-Life universe after a resonance cascade.
