Good fit- Action RPG players who want to assemble unconventional character builds
- Players who enjoy exploring open worlds with quests and dungeons
- Roguelike fans who want the option of permadeath
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who want fixed, clearly separated character classes may hit a wall when choosing and combining their own skills, weapons, and masteries.
- Players seeking a predictable dungeon layout may find procedurally generated dungeons a poor fit.
- Players who prefer combat without manual aiming or evasion may not enjoy its combat demands.
- Players looking for a fixed camera perspective may not want to choose among several camera views.
Our take on Powerlust
The first sticking point may come during build creation: there are no fixed classes to choose from, so players must put together a character from weapons, spells, abilities, and masteries. Anyone expecting a predefined class and progression path may hit a wall before exploring the world.
What is Powerlust?
Powerlust is an old-school action RPG focused on open-world exploration, quests, and skill-based hack-and-slash combat.
Classes are not fixed, allowing combinations such as fire magic with a two-handed sword or necromancy with archery. Stats matter in combat, along with aiming attacks and evading enemy strikes. The world includes cities, treasures, and quests for non-player characters. Procedurally generated dungeons, skills, masteries, weapons, and items provide options for creating different builds. Permadeath is optional. Players can choose among isometric, top-down, third-person, and first-person camera views, and the game supports controllers.
How Powerlust plays
- 01Custom Character Builds
- Weapons, spells, abilities, and masteries can be combined without fixed class restrictions.
- 02Skill-Based Combat
- Combat involves character stats as well as aiming attacks and evading incoming strikes.
- 03Procedural Dungeons
- Dungeon layouts are generated procedurally.
- 04Optional Permadeath
- Players can choose whether character death is permanent.
- 05Multiple Camera Views
- The available perspectives are isometric, top-down, third-person, and first-person.
- 06Open-World Quests
- The world includes cities to visit, treasures to find, and quests involving non-player characters.
Powerlust compared to similar games
Powerlust centers on custom character builds, open-world quests, procedurally generated dungeons, and hack-and-slash combat. Ghost of a Tale is also an action RPG, but its description emphasizes exploration, stealth, disguises, and conversations in a medieval world populated by animals. Vagante is an adventure in a dark fantasy world of monsters and demons, with adventurers pursuing fame, riches, and power.
