Is Poly Universe worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Strategy players who enjoy fitting cities into tightly limited spaces
- City builders who want citizen welfare to shape expansion
- Players who prefer connecting multiple settlements through resource trade
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking unrestricted space for large city layouts may find the tiny worlds constraining
- Players looking for a purely peaceful builder may not enjoy sudden attacks and settlement defense
- Players wanting a single-settlement city builder may find interplanetary expansion too broad
Our take on Poly Universe
Its defining constraint is the scale of its planets: each city must be arranged on a world only slightly larger than its inhabitants, making available space a central strategic concern.
What is Poly Universe?
Build a civilization across a galaxy of small, crowded worlds.
A small group of settlers begins on a remote planet, where city layouts must account for limited space. Balance industrial and residential construction while monitoring citizens’ health, happiness, and education. Defenses protect settlements from creatures that can attack with little warning. Trade routes connect planets, allowing individual worlds to specialize and exchange resources. Expansion depends on managing the needs of existing citizens because the colony has no outside source of reinforcements. The game combines city building, survival pressures, interplanetary trade, and strategic planning across numerous compact planets.
How Poly Universe plays
- 01Compact Planet Building
- Cities must fit within the restricted area available on each small world.
- 02Citizen Management
- Colony planning includes health, happiness, and education alongside housing and industry.
- 03Interplanetary Trade
- Connected worlds can focus on different specialties and exchange resources through trade routes.
- 04Settlement Defenses
- Colonies require protection against hostile creatures capable of sudden, forceful attacks.
Poly Universe compared to similar games
Poly Universe centers on compact planet-based city building, citizen management, defenses, and trade between specialized worlds. Xenonauts focuses on turn-based squads defending Earth and recovering alien technology, while Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation centers on managing vast armies across a world. Old World instead follows historical empire leadership across generations, including political marriages and heirs.
