Our take on PlayFortress
The detailed construction editor comes with a narrower focus on castle architecture. Players looking for a wider strategic campaign may find the emphasis on placing, reshaping, and decorating structures leaves less room for other forms of play.
What is PlayFortress?
PlayFortress is a castle-building game focused on medieval construction.
Players control roles including the Lord, Master Mason, and Engineer while creating fortifications and settlements and managing their economy. The current Early Access version includes a castle editor for placing keeps, towers, gatehouses, walls, floors, and buildings on uneven terrain. Walls can be joined, curved, and connected to other castle parts. Castle elements can be resized, rotated, and customised with different crenellations, roofs, entrances, stone styles, windows, doors, arrow loops, shields, and banners. Available structures include a mason lodge, carpenter hut, blacksmith, market houses, statues, and market stalls. Planned work includes settlement-building customisation, landscape terraforming, and a construction-view mode.
