Our take on OVIVO
Its defining mechanic is the color swap: black and white states change both the usable platforms and the direction of gravity, while preserved momentum lets movement continue across their boundary.
What is OVIVO?
OVIVO is a minimalist 2D platformer set in a black-and-white world.
OVO can switch between the two colors, changing which parts of the environment form platforms and which become open space. Black makes gravity pull downward, while white reverses it upward. Momentum carries across color changes, allowing OVO to move along the boundary between the two halves. The journey includes hazards, optical illusions, hidden images, puzzles, and mysterious symbols connected to the world's story. There is no written dialogue or text; gameplay and visuals convey the narrative. The game uses a meditative ambient soundtrack, and the meaning of its symbols and messages is left open to interpretation.
How OVIVO plays
- 01Reversible Gravity
- Changing color switches the direction of gravity and alters which environmental areas act as platforms.
- 02Momentum-Based Movement
- Motion is preserved during color changes, letting OVO drift along the border between the two worlds.
- 03Visual Storytelling
- The narrative is conveyed through play, imagery, symbols, and hidden messages rather than written text.
- 04Optical Illusions
- The monochrome environments contain concealed images and visual deceptions.
- 05Ambient Soundtrack
- Brokenkites provides the game's ambient musical score.
OVIVO compared to similar games
OVIVO focuses on 2D platforming built around color changes, reversed gravity, visual illusions, and wordless symbolic storytelling. Jusant centers on climbing a tall tower, stamina management, and route choice, while Sundered: Eldritch Edition is a chaotic metroidvania rather than a minimalist gravity-navigation platformer.
